Adams County Sustainability Coordinator Announced - Adrienne Dorsey

Adrienne Dorsey was recently selected as the new sustainability coordinator to implement a formalized recycling program for all Adams County buildings. In 2009, Adams County received $683,800 in funding from the federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program. This program, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, provides grants to help municipalities and counties develop and implement sustainability initiatives, projects and programs within their respective jurisdictions. Adams County identified several activities to implement these funds, including conducting an energy audit of county buildings to determine where energy costs and consumption can be reduced, developing a formalized county-wide recycling program, installing renewable energy technology and creating this sustainability coordinator position through December 2011.

Dorsey will be responsible for coordinating efforts to make the county more sustainable as a whole. These efforts will include developing and implementing a recycling program for all county buildings, serving as a sustainability liaison to policy-makers, staff and contractors, preparing policy recommendations based on technical analysis, mapping the Adams County supply chain and developing a program to make it more sustainable and promoting awareness and education regarding sustainability issues.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help advance Adams County’s commitment to sustainability,” said Dorsey. “I look forward to working with elected officials, county employees and citizens to establish initiatives, programs and projects that will reap positive environmental, economic and social benefits for the county as a whole.”

Prior to accepting the sustainability coordinator position, Dorsey served as the Open Space Grant Coordinator in the Adams County Parks & Community Resources Department. She also participates on the Adams County Green Team, Women in Sustainable Energy and Front Range Sustainability Coordinator Network. Dorsey has a B.S. Degree in Natural Resources Management from Colorado State University and an M.A.S. in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Denver.
