Udall Statement in Memory of George Beardsley

Today, Mark Udall issued the following statement in memory of George Beardsley, who died this week. Beardsley was a founding member of the boards of directors for both the Great Outdoors Colorado Trust Fund and the Colorado Conservation Trust.

"George was a key figure in Colorado 's conservation landscape – his leadership and guidance allowed preservation efforts to flourish across our state's open spaces. As a trained urban planner, he used his knowledge and strong relationships to enhance the ways we use our agricultural and natural resources now and for future generations. From developing water-conservation projects on the Western Slope to employing Front Range youth to build outdoor recreation areas for underserved communities, Great Outdoors Colorado – and therefore George – has had an impact on how we manage our beautiful natural heritage. And Colorado is stronger for it. My condolences and prayers go out to George’s family and those lucky enough to know him. He will be missed."

A native Coloradan and resident of Denver, Beardsley was also a board member of the Denver Water Board and the Gates Foundation, an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Southeast Public Improvement Metropolitan District, and a member of the Colorado Forum and the Urban Land Institute, among many other organizations to benefit Denver and Colorado.
