Vigil and Mass for Jose Guadalupe Perez Contreras

Olathe, CO - On Friday, July 30th at 7:30 in the morning, Jose Guadalupe Perez Contreras, 44, died unexpectedly of a heart attack while harvesting corn in Olathe.

Jose, originally from, El Valle de Santiago, Guanajuato, Mexico, had been coming to work as a H2A visa worker in the fields of Olathe for the last 10 years. In that time he has become a fixture in the community and a leader in the fields. Jose is survived by his wife and two children.

In his memory, and the memory of hundreds of agricultural workers who never make it back to their home countries, a vigil will be held tonight. A Mass will be said tomorrow morning for those who wish to attend.

WHAT: Community members, leaders, and friends will gather to honor the life and work of Jose Guadalupe Perez Contreras. There will be a vigil and a Mass.

WHERE: Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 211 Main Street, Olathe
