Commerce City Economic Development Director Brittany Morris was elected today as the 2011-2012 chairperson of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation’s (Metro Denver EDC) Economic Development Professionals Group.
As the nation’s first and only regional economic development entity, the Metro Denver EDC partners with 70 cities, counties and economic development organizations throughout the metro area and Northern Colorado to represent and further the interests of the entire region. As chair, Morris will lead bi-monthly meetings of the region’s economic development professionals and serve as the group’s liaison to the Metro Denver EDC Executive Committee.
“I’m honored to be selected by my peers to lead the professionals group for the coming year,” said Morris. “I look forward to strengthening our role in regional advocacy and engaging in meaningful dialogue about how to improve our ability to attract and retain businesses to the metro area.”
As Commerce City’s economic development director, Morris led the process to develop the city’s first economic development strategic plan and created a short-term tax and fee rebate incentive program to spur business and development growth during the economic downturn. Prior to joining the city, she served as senior vice president of CRL Associates, Inc. A native Coloradan, she is a member of the Denver Planning Board and former vice-chairperson for the Denver Women’s Commission.
