Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, in honor of Staff Sgt. Robert B. Cowdrey. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.Cowdrey, 39, of Atwater, Ohio, died Oct. 13 in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained during combat operations. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, N.C.
Cowdrey was a 1990 graduate of La Junta High School. He is survived by his wife and three sons. A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29, in La Junta.
