Kaarl Hoopes was raised as a military brat, moving back and forth across the Atlantic with his American Air Force father and Finnish mother. He eventually landed in Alaska for college, where he put himself through the University of Alaska Fairbanks by working as a Teamster on the Alaska Pipeline in the summers, driving pipe hauling trucks and surveying from helicopters. After surveying the gorgeous natural beauty of Alaska from helicopters, Kaarl got his Private Pilot’s license with float rating, so he could continue working in the skies over Alaska—a skill he has used in volunteering for the Air Force Auxiliary: Civil Air Patrol in Colorado.
While still in Alaska, Kaarl had the opportunity to work at the House Special Energy Committee, which was charged with exploring all energy options, giving Kaarl an interesting insight into development of government policy and natural resource development. After working in the State Legislature, Kaarl went into real estate in Anchorage and was a top agent for one of the largest real estate groups, Century 21.
Moving to Colorado over 25 years ago, Kaarl continued work in real estate but expanded his skills and opened a small IT consulting business. Today, he works as a Systems Administrator for IBM with a small team that is responsible for over a thousand Windows servers owned by a banking software firm, which handles billions of dollars of critical inter-bank transfers.
In his time in Colorado, Kaarl has been a leader in his community through work with prison ministries, Victory Church, Denver Rescue Mission, Finlandia Foundation, and the Air Force Auxiliary: Civil Air Patrol. Kaarl is also a member of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly.
